Re: LO8 1/2 bad river bet?
Not likely to get paid off by a worse hand - in fact if anyone else bets any time you'd do well folding.
By the way, that's quite an optimistic hand to play in MP2. You're losing a fraction of a bet every time you play it there. |

Too short to play this hand preflop. River bet is fine, sometimes you'll get worse hands to call (or even raise).

Are their any worse hands that pay me off here? [/ QUOTE ]cgkid - Maybe. You know your opponents better than I do. I like your flop bet. With three hands against you, after this flop chances are nobody has a four or pair of kings. It's close (52/48 or 51/49, something like that), but a nice chance to steal. (And then if you get any play back, even a call, I think you have to back off, just as you did.) Nobody should be calling you here without a four or a pair of kings. Based on the call of the flop bet and then the check after you check the turn, looks like Button either is:<ul type="square">(1) drawing for a spade, (2) drawing for low, or (3) simply hoping to use position to out-play you on the river.[/list] You probably get called (and beaten) if Button has a four or some other better hand than you. And then you lose the one big bet for the last betting round. (You may even get raised and then you face a dilemma). You face the same dilemma if you check the river instead of betting. Assuming you check and then call Button's bet, if you are beaten, you lose one big bet either way. The difference is by calling you may induce a bluff from Button. And in that case, for the same risk, you win one extra big bet. Maybe there are worse hands than yours that pay you off. And maybe there are better hands that fold to the continued pressure. And you should almost always prefer not to show your hand. Those are three good reasons to bet. All the same, you should at least be aware of the possibility of checking and inducing a bluff. Buzz |
