Default running a mile a DAY improves your poker PLAY?

There is no doubt that playing poker regularly can take its toll on you both mentally and physically. I was told by a cardiologist that physical excersize is the number one cure for people with out of control road rage. Now your mentality during a bad driving altercation is nearly identical to a poker player who experiences a bad beat. Therefore staying physicaly fit should enable you to play or A game more consistantly. Anybody disagree?

I dont think there is any doubt...that exercising will keep your mind sharper....and you will feel gererally better. All of which will help to make you a tougher poker player.

I'd agree. I don't work out near enough, but when I do workout, I usually feel much more alert the rest of the day.

I vividly recall film of Garry Kasparov in training, all the swimming he would do. Man that guy was hairy.

David Sklansky must be smarter than Garry Kasparov. What are the odds he's hairier? I should start a new topic for such important questions.

Then get into walking briskly as much as you can. Walking is probably better once you get over 40 and you can work in little walks before and after play.

For example, Commerce is right down the street from the Citadel outdoor shopping outlet. Often before hitting LA's biggest card barn I'll take a little tour, sometimes running into something really decent on sale (most recently half price Banana Republic cargo pants).

If you drive ten minutes past Hollywood Park you can walk the Manhattan Beach pier area. Great way to relax and catch a nice view before you play.

And finally, if you need a rack, a cushion, or whatever while playing get up and find it yourself. Nothings worse than sitting in a casino without using your legs.

Driving to the pick up window at Wendy's may not make me feel better, but it sure gets me motivated.

There a handful of guys in the world smarter than Gary Kasparov. And with the type of things that are normally on an IQ test I'd bet on Gary. Bobby Fischer was somewhere around 180.

I'm going to say that working out/running and such does infact improve poker play.
My other big hobby other than poker is bodybuilding and when I get in from the gym I find myself making much better and thought out decisions.
