I doubt private for-profit schools would be nearly this lax with checking the backgrounds of their teachers.

Yeah, because the market has such holy qualities that a free enterprise school system would only be run by the purest of heart and strongest of mind. It would be impossible for a bad apple to slip the holy cracks because there are no cracks. Just pure bliss.

Or more along the lines of if a private school got a bad rep then parents would have control (their money) over getting the situation resolved and the school would put it in their primary interests to take any precautions to avoid a similar situation.

With public education the parents are subject to the bureaucracy of trying to have their voice heard, little incentive for the administrators to correct the problems and no monetary repercussions of ignoring the problem or trying to cover it up.

Yeah most towns don't really care if their school system has a bad rep because it doesn't really affect people's decisions to move to/from that town. And the people who live in the town already don't care either about the schools their children attend. Oh wait.

Oh, and I'm for free enterprise schools, but when people find an anecdote related to a government school and pretend its indicative of all public school education and the free market would eradicate this condition, it's just stupid.
