Default How effective is coaching?

Obviously that question in the title is somewhat subjective, but i'm just curious of some of the basic things people have gotten out of coaching arrangements. I play NL200 at the moment on a $4,000 roll. I used to play NL400 on a much larger roll, but a bad downswing+break+cashout large quantities of cash has left me starting again.

I'm doing basically everything I can to break back to mid-stakes and stay put there. Card runners, as many books as I possibly can, camping every post on 2+2, so i'm wondering if a coaching arrangement is the next logical step. I particularly want to work on increasing my aggression. I currently play about 23/16/1.8 but would like to work on increasing the aggression factor post flop and 3-betting more preflop. Although that's just one area I know needs improvement.

Any help would be appreciated.

-Andy

There are a number of great players on this boards that coach, and if you are considering it I think it would most likely be very beneficial to you in the long run.

I've been coached as well as coach. Honestly getting coaching was the best thing I've ever done for my game. It really gave me the fundamentals that allowed me to expand. As a coach I've never heard of anyone thinking that the lesson was not worthwhile. Even if you cut one leak, rinse and repeat, you make/save a lot of money in the long run. Coaching is +EV

Most of the coaches that could help you beat mid-stakes are going to be pretty expensive as they are already beating mid-stakes themselves.

I would beat up on 1/2 for awhile and try to get a 40-50 buy-in roll for 2-4. That way you can try out 2-4 for awhile to see exactly where you're lacking in mid-stakes play before seeking out a coach.

Edit: Also at least then you'll have some hand histories at the mid-stakes for your coach to review.

And yes, coaches are very effective at improving your game if you can find a good coach.

coaches aren't that expensive.

coaches are very helpful, but it is important to note that they aren't necessary. Many top players achieved their level of success by just thinking about the game. You can take this honestly, cause i'm a coach. I think a coach can be a great tool, they aren't too expensive for the knowledge they have, and they can really help[ your game.

Do your students also get the inflated sense of self-worth included?

I thought it was in the $200-250 an hour range, that's putting it a little further out of reach.

So Aejones, does that price include learning how to beat 10/20 for -7PTBB/100?

they learn to "appreciate themselves" and "be confident in their decisions" while occasionally learning that some other players are "less competent" than people aejones coaches
