Default Working at a pawn shop?

I've been looking for a job so I can save up money to go to school. There's a pawn shop within walking distance of my house that's hiring. I called up and asked about qualifications (lol, over 18 and no criminal record) and pay/benefits. I was told "it varies."

I understand how a pawn shop works, obviously. But does the "it varies" description mean I'll be working on or with commission? I always figured general employees of a pawn shop were just like most retail jobs.

Also, I'd rather not work at a pawn shop, though it seems like most of the time people are just hanging out doing nothing. Thoughts?

I honestly can't imagine a worse clientele to deal with on a daily basis.

Sounds like "it varies" would depend on previous cashier experience, past pawn shop experience, etc etc.

I couldn't imagine a pawn shop paying on a commission basis, but I've never worked at one.

I currently grind higher stakes than that, but have lost the motivation to play enough to make it worth it.

Yes. Ace Pawn Shop on Walnut. Next to the car wash/Rally's and across the street from Arby's.
