Default AJ 3-bet from blinds, oh no ive hit the Jack

Full Tilt Poker
No Limit Holdem Ring game
Blinds: $0.50/$1
6 players
Converter

Pre-flop: (6 players) Hero is BB with J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
3 folds, Button raises to $3.5, SB folds, Hero raises to $13, Button calls.

Flop: 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] ($26.5, 2 players)
Hero bets $16, Button calls.

Turn: J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] ($58.5, 2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets $35, Hero?

Villain is 20/11/1.3. Hero TAG.

At the time i thought QQ was likely in his range and medium pairs, even JJ (not likely). I think he would 4-bet AA/KK. Not sure whether he bets those other medium pairs on the turn or whether he'd have floated Jx on the flop.

Villain has 36 left, Hero covers.

Do you hate anything else about the hand?

clear shove at this point as villain puts you on ak and might have TT or lower

This is a tough spot and the main reason I hate 3-betting AJ from a blind position. When villain calls, he usually has AK, AA-TT here and his range is not much more than that. His range is large as he's in an obvious stealing situation, but he's not calling your 3-bet with anything you beat.

You might see a hand like AK or TT here floating you on the flop and trying to steal or even thinking he is good on the turn, but I think you're much more likely against a hand like AA-JJ here.

like it was stated, i don't like 3 betting AJ against someone with these stats, too much uncertainty no matter what the flop is...

Could villain call your 3bet with A9, 89s or T9s here ? A 20/11 rarely, but occasionally does it. I don't see any other hand in his calling range that contains a 9. Your turn check shows weakness and villain won't believe you on the 9 given the action.

I think this is a really good spot for a 2nd barrel, representing either QQ/KK/AA or one of the mentioned hands above. Here vilain hasn't got much left, but I doubt calling his allin raise is profitable, since he knows he won't have any FE, and you showed great strength. If he raises you AI here, a muck seems to be the best play.

As you see, being OOP and unsure as to how to react to a bet, checking puts you in a tough situation. Calling is out of question if you plan to fold to his last 30 on the river.
The only hands that will call a raise that you beat are KJ and QJ.. But you get called by A9, 89, T9, JJ, QQ (possibly 33 as well...) and lose. All these hands are likely to flat call flop and fire on the turn, whereas KJ and QJ are really unlikely.

So I think it's a fold.

Woopie... we take 4BB...

More often than not, we are stuck playing a dominated hand OOP. His range is really tight, he's not folding too many hands in that range to our 3 bet.
