Moving to a brand new area need some help. (San Jose/Santa Clara)

I am looking for some reviews of apartments or neighborhoods in the San Jose, Santa Clara area. I have never been west of Grand Forks ND (there was that time I was in Denver but that was just the airport &#61514. What are some of the neighborhoods like around some of these places? The particular apartment is at the star and all, but hopefully this map gives enough info to get the general area.

I am also wondering about the traffic. From most of these places I would be spending a bit of time on the Sam Tomas Expressway, about 4 to 8 miles. I would expect this to take 5 to 15 minutes under ‘normal’ traffic conditions. I don’t have any idea what the ‘rush hour’ effect is in this place I have never been. Any input on what to expect would be great.

PS. I know there are apartment / neighborhood rating sites out there, but they are pretty biased in the fact that most people who are happy with their situations or neighborhoods don’t bother going to a website to point out such.
