It don\'t take a weatherman to know which way the wind blows
Mirage 40 game, 7 handed. 3 limpers and I raise red KK in the SB, Hobbs calls, limpers call.
Flop is A4T rainbow, two red cards one club. I bet, Hobbs calls, button--a straightfoward player who thinks calls. Turn is the 2 of clubs. I bet because these two players will peel the flop with 5 outs, Hobbs calls with what is obviously an Ace. River is a blank 3 so I bet, but I think checkraising might be better. |

[/ QUOTE ] i don't know what your history is with hobbs but no 2p2er ever folds top pair vs me like ever ever ever no matter what i do hu. though checkraising would be the way to do it if he would fold. edit to add: incidentally if he is the type to make a thin value raise with a naked ace, like AQ or something, then a 3-bet may get him to fold. |

Hobbs was not born yesterday. He is seeing a showdown with an Ace vs. the DaveR, especially one that he defended his BB with.

A82 or A84, I think, Daver. No broadway on this board. Think the final board was A8345 or thereabouts.

Checkraising is better than betting but you're missing the best option.

Re: It don\'t take a weatherman to know which way the wind blows
If he obviously has an A, why are you betting the river? This is a case of the 2+2 mantra: "If he's calling the turn, he's calling the river".
I suppose that you could go for a c/r, but I don't think he's folding to it. In addition, he might not quite have enough of a hand to bet the river or he could figure you for attempting the sexy, so he just might foil you and check behind and you can see his A for nothing on the river. I suppose that he might have something like JT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], picked up a club draw on the turn and just might make a curiosity call, but that's a longer shot. |

[/ QUOTE ] From ample past experience, Hobbs does not like to fold to hubristic river bluff attempts against 2+2ers he knows well. Was he ordering Jager shots by this point? Was he playing a lag pile? Those facts may have some bearing. |

Also, this hand happened around 6pm so I was only on drink 5 or 6 at the time to answer W's question. |
