Default NLTRN: Theory: Sanity check, just some things I do

Ill give you just 10 points of things I do and you feel free to comment:

[I play the 11s and 22s at Stars (turbos)]

1) At the 10/20 level I std raise to 60.

2) At the 15/30 level I std raise to 80.

3) At the 25/50 level I std raise to 115.

4) At the 50/100 level I minraise to 200 or push.

---

5) At the 10/20 level I either raise or fold. I only limp when Im playing a hopeless station that is truly horrible pf or simply doesnt fold pf in the BB

6) At the 15/30 level I still raise most of my hands. Limp some.

7) At the 25/50 level I raise less and limp regularly

8) At the 50/100 level I either minraise good hands K9o+, pairs, QTo+, A7o+, QJ+ . I selectively limp good hands like 87s+, most Aces some suited Ks and Qs. I dump highly speculative hands like 69o, 34s etc.

9) I always apply SAGE 8bbs (effective) and lower.

10) When facing extremely passive and tight opponents I start push/folding at 10bbs

Anything that looks like a horrible thing to do?

Looks good, you should be winning a good % of your matches.

15-30 blinds I don't exactly have a standard raise, I decide if it's going to be 75 or 90 (rarely does it ever go higher or lower) based on stack sizes and how my opponent plays OOP postflop and how often he calls preflop OOP.

I generally do 125 in 25-50, minraise sometimes against certain players when effective stacks are really small.

thats the thing, I dont. I took shots at the 22s and SS every opponent I played. I played 5 winning players and thought they were all horrible. Yet I dont win enough to even see a bankroll growing. Im at a point now where Im thinking "Either there is this huge massive wormhole of a leak in my game OR Im the most unlucky tard on earth"

The thing with the second possibility is that I cant put my finger on where exactly Im getting unlucky. Sure, there are suckouts every day, but thats normal. So Im looking for wormholes now.

Youll probably see a couple of threads like this by me int he future.

I had the same issues early on over the first 400-500 games I played. Just stay with it, it will click like overnight in the 22s or 33s and you'll start winning as much as you should be.

It takes a little bit of getting used to. There isn't really anything like these, but once you get the hang of it, and into the swing of things you will start to see the money fly in.

By the way, what's your sample size looking like?

On this computer I have around 250 matches. ROI being an 8.4%. On my laptop I should have another 100 - 150 matches being pretty much breakeven, maybe slight win. So ROI will go down again.

Since Im getting (having) a job now I decided to get back to the 11s and build my roll like I havent played poker before. Not assuming I can play the higher stakes before Im not proven to be a winner at the current stakes. Even if bankroll allowed it not move up. I told myself Ill make at least 200 matches of the 11s now before considering to move up.

It may be inefficient and I know it will hurt my BR growth rate. But it still gives me some sort of mental stability as I am very prone to drop my Agame when monetary swings kick in. Even if its not exactly scared money I play differently when the outcome of the match affects me in some way (even if I try to tell myself differently at tiems). Unconsciously it happens, I know it.

Just now, since I opened this thread I played 7 matches and only lost 2. In all 7 I only made one (in retrospect) questionable decision (that I find questionable myself, Im sure there is still plenty of other stuff that isnt so good) and I feel that I can crush these games.

I guess you guys are right. Its probably just a combination of unconscious mediocre play and a little tought luck. Hope things will turn around.

It's better to get used to stepping up on a thinner bankroll while you're in the lower stakes than in the higher stakes.

At the same time you're more prone to tilting off a good % of your bankroll if you've only played a few hundred games, so who the [censored] knows what you should do.
