Changes in UK poker scene due to new gambling act?
This is addressed mostly to UK players. The new gambling act comes into effect today. The media coverage has focused on the fact that casinos can now advertise on TV, and that pubs can hold very small buy-in poker tournaments.
I remember being told months ago by a few card-room managers that September 1 would see the introduction of American style raked cash games. Anyone who has ever played in the insanity that is a UK tournament (starting M of about 10) will welcome this news. But is it for real? Has anyone seen their local casino starting up cash games, buying more tables, training dealers, etc.? Thanks for any info. |

you got to be kidding, its less than a week since the law was enacted. Give things time to trickle down, change wont be instantaneous.

Pubs have started openly advertising their £10 tournies.
I dont know if casino are charging rake yet. I am suprised that none of the large London card rooms have been raided/shut down. As I understand ght gambling comission now have the power to shut these clubs without court action. I thought Gutshot would be first. |

Pubs have started openly advertising their £10 tournies [/ QUOTE ] Quiz nights were the reason many people went to pubs. Poker nights could be the saviour of the traditional British Ale house |

Thanks for the responses, people.
[ QUOTE ] you got to be kidding, its less than a week since the law was enacted. Give things time to trickle down, change wont be instantaneous. [/ QUOTE ] Fair comment, TT. The reason I asked so soon after the legislation came into effect was because of conversations I'd had with poker room managers over the previous year, in which several of them gave me the impression that there might be significant and sudden change: the casinos were itching to introduce raked poker (presumably raked all to hell and back) because they believed that this legislation made it possible for them to do so. |

At my local casino that have introduced the buying in up to the end of the rebuy period for rebuys. You can also buy in up the the end of level 2 for freezeouts. I dont think many casinos are going to start charging rake as they would need to change the tables. I have also been told that they are still not allowing the tiping of the dealers.
