3 barrels unimproved
This came up in the session reviews: when do you fire 3 barrels unimproved after raising preflop? I said that this situation is rare and one example might be when you raised a suited connector preflop as a steal and your opponent calls to the river on a coordinated board. In that case you have no showdown value and you have good fold equity. When I have A high with a good kicker though and someone calls to the river I generally just check it through on the end. In that case I really don't need to bluff most of the time and will probably only get called by small pairs.

Re: 3 barrels unimproved
honestly this hardly ever works even against very good opposition who can make the folds on the end. the reason it can be a good play is so that observant players realize your river bets are not always value bets at the river.
focus on other things. |

[/ QUOTE ] I'm not really focusing on it. My session review partner was doing it too much. His logic was that he could get small pairs to fold on the river sometimes using his tight table image. I disagree with that and I was trying to think of some examples of where I would 3 barrell unimproved. There was a post a while ago about raising unimproved overcards on the flop with no draws and the point of that was that it was almost never correct to do so. I think this is similar. At the micro limits it is usually necessary to make another continuation bet on the turn because people peel the flop almost every hand, but if they call there I'm done with the hand if I don't improve. I probably make continuation bets on the turn too much as it is. |

Re: 3 barrels unimproved
betting the river is incredibly different from betting the turn. "3 barrels" implies betting every street including the river as a bluff. most fish either:
a. c/c flop, c/f turn or b. c/c flop, c/c turn, c/c river so betting twice is very often correct, and betting three times is very rarely correct. just tell your review partner, "stop bluffing against fish." |
