2 rats (1 male 1 female) arrive on an island, (day 0) and produce 6 more rats, 3 male and 3 female. The original couple produces 3 more couples, or 6 more rats, every 40 days thereafter. The subsequent generations cannont produce untill they reach 120 days, and then they too produce rats at a rate of 6 rats every 40 days.
After one year, (360 days for this) how many rats are on the island? I got(but I dont know if it is correct): 1862 Hint in white: For a start and clarification, day 0, there will be 8 rats, with 2 being reproductive. Day 120, there will be the 2 original + the 3 couples now able to reproduce and so on... |
