Default Teach me about Video Editing.

I have a pretty boring job, so while I'm walking around at work I have to think of things to keep me entertained.

I've run a few things through my brain and I thought of a project I'd really like to do. It's an alternate ending to a movie using scenes spliced from the movie and I think it'd be pretty funny/clever.

So Questions:

1. What kind of program would I need to do this?
2. How difficult is it to edit video?
3. Would I have to edit the video clips and then put together an audio track to overlay onto it?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Final Cut Pro is what I use at school and it is pretty easy to use. It uses a lot of just click and drag. Very easy to edit. When you load the video and audio, it goes together but if you wanted to put audio from say a different clip you can do that also.

Is there a free version of this product? I only plan on making this one project.

Final Cut Pro is both expensive and only available for Mac. Adobe Premiere is probably the best video editing app for PC and there's a trial version you can download from Adobe's site.

Thanks! Free and easy is right up my alley.

Next question: Is it in violation of national copyright laws if I host my edited version on Youtube?

Probably since you're using their footage, but honestly who cares. There's so much copyrighted stuff on there and it's not like you're hosting the whole movie or anything. Worst case scenario they take it down.

BTW, which film are you planning on editing?

The free program that comes with Macs is incredibly easy to use. If you've never used Final Cut (or god forbid, Avid), I would suggest this.

Sounds like Macs are much easier to work with for stuff like this than PC's. Too bad I have a PC dinosaur from 5 years ago.
