Tell me about Iceland
basically, have seen a few things I like about Iceland such as the scenery and am quite intrigued by the kind of geothermally heated pools and spas etc.
Have any people had good or bad experiences of Iceland, what things should be seen and what should be missed? I plan to go in a week or 2, I hear this is the kind of peak time to go, what are pros cons to this over a winter break there? |

Re: Tell me about Iceland
My younger brother (18 years old if that matters) is there for 8 weeks or so right now. He loves it. Then again, he has some sort of Iceland obsession so that was never in doubt. Our mother just got back from there and said it was incredibly fun and beautiful, except that everything was way more expensive than they expected and budgeted for. I don't know if that was a recent development or if it was just an oversight, but that's the only negative thing I've heard.

Re: Tell me about Iceland
I've been there twice, once in the winter about 8 years ago, and then a year and a half ago. It's a wonderful place to visit, can't recommend it highly enough.
The first visit was during the winter 8 years ago (one of the Iceland Air midweek specials). We spent 2 days in Reykjavik, which is about all that it is worth unless you really like drinking and/or partying. Winter in Iceland is not as cold as you would think, but it is rainy and dark (sunrise at 11AM, sunset at 4PM). Still it's a lot of fun, but a lot of the outdoor stuff is more difficult or unaccessable in winter. The second time we went was in early May, and we drove from Reykjavik to Akureyri, which is about 1/3 of the way around the island. The drive is absolutely beautiful with all sorts of different types of land. We drove through mountains, along a fjord with an iceburg, through a huge river valley, etc... In the summer, there are a lot more things to do in the summer, but it is a LOT more expensive. Everyone in Iceland that we met was very friendly, and for the most part they speak English well enough to get by or know someone who does. If you have the money, the summer is the way to go, especially if you enjoy outdoor activities. |

Re: Tell me about Iceland
It's actually not an icy land, it's green! But Greenland is actually all ice! It was some lie the vikings spread or something.

Hot girls, smooooookin' hot girls, prolly the best in Europe, even though Ukrainian/Russian girls are quite good as well.
