Default Shared Documents

Hope someone can help. Wife and I have 2 computers. We have a cable modem and use a router I bought at Best Buy. I head there is a way for us to share documents so that she can access stuff on my comp and I can do the same on hers, but when I put something into the shared document folder, it does not show in her shared document folder. Obviously I'm doing something wrong. Checked the HP help files but that was no help? Anyone?

The "Shared Documents" folder only show the folders on your computer that you are sharing. To see the folder on the other computers that are being shared you have to go to "My Network Places" and click on the other computer. If it's set up properly, you'll see the contents of your wife's "Shared Documents" folder.

If it's not set up properly, go to the other forum to find out how to set it up properly.

Make sure both computers are on the same Workgroup. Right click on My Computer, choose properties, then click on Computer Name -- it will show the workgroup name.

Recommend that you change it to something other than the MSHOME default.

Right click on a folder you wish to share, and choose sharing and security -- this is how you can share a folder.

Both computers have a name, and to see what shares are available you can just Click Start/Run and type in \\[computername] a new explorer window will open up with all the shares.

Also, firewalls need to be configured to allow traffic.
