AQ from BB vs raise, did I mees up?
UTG raiser is multi tabler tag ~18/15
Caller is fish. 1. Do you like a call fold or raise PF? 2. Now what? Bet flop or not? 3. If not, now what on turn? Basically I need help on whole hand. You always call this river?
What hands would you put him on to play like this? |

Re: AQ from BB vs raise, did I mees up?
You're ahead of AJ on the river, and that's about it.
I can't see him playing AJ this way (calling the RR preflop). The only hands that make sense to me are AK, AA, or a set. KK reraises preflop, AQ probably bets the flop, AJ/AT isn't in it after the preflop raise, and QQ/JJ probably checks it down on the river. Only AK, AA, and PPs just call preflop. You're behind them all. Fwiw I think it's AK, though he might have caught an 8 on the turn. |

So you fold river here or turn even?

So you fold river here or turn even? [/ QUOTE ] No I bet the godamn flop. Then I bet the turn. If I get called twice I might check/fold the river. If I get raised on the flop I would likely call (depending on the amount). If I got raised on the turn I would fold. Your problem was not betting the flop. |

alright, I just figured he would only fold JJ and QQ and if he has AQ+, he calls anyway so I am not too sure why I am betting flop.

Re: AQ from BB vs raise, did I mees up?
I'm not in love with preflop to be honest. With the cold caller being a known fish, some of the power of the squeeze play is removed - and this guy is fairly tight and raising from UTG. If he calls, we're OOP against a strong range with a tricky hand - so I mean, it feels a bit like turning AQ into a bluff preflop when I do this.
If the guy was looser, or even in LP, I'd like the 3bet preflop more. It's best to mix it up IMO between calling and raising here, so I don't think it's *bad* either way. As for postflop - I like your line here (and a call on the river) had you just called preflop and not 3bet, and I would play it like this against this guy often in that scenario. As played, though - you 3bet preflop, you hit your flop, now bet. It very well might blow this guy off some pairs I maybe get one street of value out of at most - but I also want to be able to bet this flop against a regular when I hold JJ for example as well. I think on balance it's best not to get getting too tricky in a reraised pot against a solid player when OOP with this kind of holding. |

[/ QUOTE ] As much as everyone seems to hate this concept around here, you're betting the flop not only because you are likely ahead, but because the information you gain makes the hand easier to play. As it is, you're totally lost on the turn and river because you failed to bet the flop. |
