Default Home Casino Night - I get to be the house!

So a little while back, some friends and I discussed having a casino night at one of our places. We occasionally have a poker night, but since a few of my friends are not as fanatical about poker as I am, they liked the idea of doing a night where we played other casino games other than just poker.

The plan is something like this...

1.5 hours of Blackjack
1.5 hours of Casino War
1.5 hours of 3 Card Poker
Then a NL Holdem tourney to end the night

Large amounts of alcohol will also be involved.

In total, there will likely be 5-7 players gambling it up.

So, since none of my buddies have poker bankrolls, and none of them are that well off, I offered to put up my bankroll and act as the house for the night. My main goal is increasing my bankroll, and I know that the house has the advantage. So to me, this was a no-brainer. It was an easy sell to my friends as well, because while they realize that the house does always have an advantage, they also do not like the idea of putting up a few hundred of their own dollars to act as the house.

The stakes are small, since my friends are not “ballas”, and neither am I. All bets for all games, will likely be 50˘-$2 max, per hand.

At these stakes, I imagine a few hundred will be more than enough for me to start with as the house, right?

This IS a no-brainer, right? I should definitely jump at the chance of acting as the house, right?

Are you referring to that infamous thread where the kid wanted to start a casino in his home? If so, I am familiar with that one.

But my situation is not like that at all. This is just a one night thing, where instead of the usual poker night, we are mixing in some other casino games. And we need someone to put up the money to be the house, so I volunteered, understanding that being the house gives me the best odds of turning a profit on the night.

I guess I am just trying to see what others thought about my opportunity here. If given the chance, would you volunteer to be the house on a night like this with this variety of games? I tried to make each game available for a decent amount of time each, so that I can get through any good runs the players may have, and take better advantage of my long-term odds.

Another question - what other game(s) would you offer, if you were in a position to act as the house for one night? I don't want to do anything to complex, because I don't want to have to do math at the table to figure out payouts - and I don't want to offer the potential of a player to hit a huge hand and break me. Most of the games I offered, have a relatively small maximum payoff amount. Sure, if someone hits trips or a straight flush in 3 Card Poker, than I could be paying off a fairly big amount, but I will take that chance.

Casino War and 3-Card Poker? Why not just drug your friends and steal their money? At least give the guys a chance; play craps at least.

lol - hey, the way I see it, they are all grown men and they know what they're betting on. Actually, a few of these guys play nothing but War in the casinos - they love the “zero-thinking necessary” nature of the game. It makes it an easy game to gamble on when they are drunk. The games we are having, are the same ones they all play the most in the casinos. They realize that I technically have the advantage in all of these games, but like I said, none of them have the money or want to put up the money, to act as the house. They'd rather be the players. Fine with me.

Well yes the potential to win is definately there, but so is the potential to suffer huge losses in the short term.
In the long run, yes you'll win, anywhere from 1%-5% depending on the game played. In the short run, you might lose a few hundred. Keep in mind casino's edge are pretty small for most games, they make it back over the course of hundreds of players and thousands of dollars and time. You don't have "time." You'll need at least $500 and hope "the house" don't go on a bad run.

Of course I can lose, I am aware of that. And it will suck to take a big hit and run bad as the house. But I will take my chances and try to exploit my edge (as small as it may be) as the house.

I mean, if I am going to play one spot - either player or the house - it is the smarter play to be the house on this night, right? The psychology of putting up a few hundred, as opposed to $40-50 as a player, is probably the biggest reason my friends have no desire to play as the house. Statistically though, playing as the house is my best spot for turning a profit, right?
