Default Pinnacle Television Prop -- Does this seem like a lock?

Which show will have the most viewers?

Survivor - Cook Islands (-361) CBS
Ugly Betty (+321) ABC

This is a bridge jumper, but it seems like such a lock that it's going to be Survivor. Survivor was #4 in the ratings in its first week. #8 in its second week. The shows are both on at 8pm Thursday night.

In the same hour, these shows are up against the season debut of Smallville, My Name Is Earl and The Office.

Early critical reactions to Ugly Betty are that it's pretty bad (this coming from a friend of mine who reads a lot of critical stuff).

I know that Survivor is beginning to fall off in the ratings, but how could it lose here?

Before anyone says it, yes I am aware that there is no such thing as a lock. You know what I'm asking.

A quick google of "Survivor, Ugly Betty" make it seem very unlike a lock to me.

Just to clarify, the bet might still be a value one and it could be a slaughter, but I see enough comments that seem to think it will be close that I wouldn't be happy staking the required sums to make this worthwhile.

Just a final thought for now, you'll notice that I'm looking for reasons that Survivor might not win this prop. I always feel this is the best way to tackle huge favorites. I'd be interested if people have other methods.

I can see where you're coming from, but even given any buzz that it might have, it's so hard to imagine it winning. In fact, it's hard to imagine it would beat Earl and The Office. I do think that would make for a more interesting prop.

Earl/The Office aren't even top 20. Survivor was #8 down from #4 the week before. I just don't think there are enough viewers out there at the same time to make it win.

Also, the Smallville factor is small, but significant.

Am I right that if Ugly Betty is to win this bet, Survivor has to get beaten by Earl/Office?

(Just so I can continue hunting)

No, that's not the bet. It's just one on one.

My comment was just that it's hard to imagine it beating either of those shows, and neither of them are top 20.

Sorry, I realise that. But if I told you now that Ugly Betty had won the bet, would you expect Survivor to have fallen a long way, or Betty to have had a ridiculous premier?
