Default Sickening Trip Report

Got back from 5 days in LV yesterday and it was horrible. Mainly because I spent the better part of the trip in my room with a massive case of food poisoning.

Things started fine. Checked in at the Mirage and hit the pool for a bit. Didn't want too much sun too soon and I was hungry so I some late lunch/early dinner. I wanted to check out new rooms so I headed to Caesars to check it out. They had a seat for 4/8 (only limit game going) so I took it. After about 45 minutes a new 4/8 started and mine started getting short. When it got down to 4 handed I was gonna leave but they moved us to the other game. It was typical LV 4/8 and pretty soft I ended up about 50 bucks after a few hours when I left. But this second game got short too and they couldn't seem to keep a full table. Tired I called it a night.

Next day (Thursday) I did the spa for a workout and then the pool for a few hours of sun. I hit the Mirage poker room at about noon and a 6/12 was just starting. Barely! We started the game 5 handed. It never did fill up but got up to maybe 8 or so but eventually got back down to 5 and broke. There were seats in 10/20 so I moved over there. This was the fullest game of the trip with 9 players. I played for most of the afternoon and broke even. I wanted to grab a nice steak dinner so I tried the Stack Steakhouse at the Mirage. Steak tasted great but little did I know it would just about kill me! Afeter dinner I wanted to see the Venitian. Beautiful and very comfortable room. I signed up for 6/12 but got in a 3/6 while I waited. The 3/6 was way short too with only 6 of us. The 6/12 got called and once again started short with only 5 of us. Eventually it almost filled up but never had more than 8 players. I played for a few hours and won about 60 bucks.

This was about the end of the trip for me. I awoke that night sicker than sick and spent the next 36 hours in my room crapping puking and moaning. That steak was apparently not a good piece of meat. I really wanted to play the Caesars noon tourney on Friday but no way I could do it. So I set my sights on Saturday. I felt a little better having but still real bad. I was hoping I could make it from break to break without crapping myself. I was successfual at that anyway This is a great tournament. Nice structure and a nice big field that day (about 150). I did okay for a while and the play was real soft yet not manaical like online. I had about 7.2K at first break which was okay since I barely played a hand. At second break I was leading my table with about 18K I was aggresively stealing and that strategy seemed to work well. Shortly after second break I raised in mid position with KJ suited. The BB came over the top for about 4K more and I felt it was worth a call but he had ATo and I didn't improve. From there I switched tables 3 time in the next six hands and got raped by seat/blind draws. It was up to 600/1200 blinds now and I was down to about 10K. I went all in with KJs again and old man with QQ called and QQ was good but he only had about 4K so I was left with 6K. Not nearly enough at this point. In my BB I had Q4s. UTG went all in or about 1K more. Big stack called. I figured this is it. I'll call and push the flop no matter what. Maybe I can get the big stack to fold and luck out against the short stack. But I missed and was out about 35th place. Top 20 got paid and top prize was over 5K.

Back at the Mirage I got in a 6/12 but as always it was short as I made it 6 handed. But I was feeling horrible and only played about a half hour before I knew I had to leave. I spent the rest of the trip feeling horrible up in room. Playing the tournament probably was not smart but I had to try it.

So it was a disappointing trip to say the least and I missed most of the big action I was hoping for on the holiday weekend. But in all my Vegas trips over the years I can never remember so many short games and absolutely no waiting lists. With no limit taking over and everyone offering sit'n goes the limit pool seems very diluted with too many choices. I wonder about limit pokers future, at least at the piddly stakes I play. I'm still sick by the way. I'm seeing the doctor in a few hours but am still constantly on the can and running a fever. I'd avoid that Stack steakhouse if I were you!

I played it on Saturday night- lots of older rocks and locals it seemed. Not really any decent players, but not a lot of action. I did fall in lust with Demetra though =P

It was touristy and soft while I played in it. The $3 chips have gotten ripped on this board but it's a much better game with them than the red/blue version of the game. I don't doubt $2 chips would be better but 3's are much better than 1s and 5s.

Did you inform the Mirage that you were sick?
