Makonnen\'s Muck Ups #8 (9?) Low Limit O8
This one is more about how to think through a hand ... do I just let it go on the flop b/c of the paired board? Once he raises on the flop, my confidence in my hand is pretty low. Then, on the river, I'm getting squeezed, but I have the nut straight on a non-flush board. I thought UTG was on a busted diamond draw for high.
I'm afraid of the full house, but I have no idea how to figure out if I'm against two people with low wheels (in which case, I'm splitting their money), or a wheel and a boat (in which case, they're splitting mine). In hindsight, the final call was pretty dumb--I remember a bit of sage advice here about, in general, not calling 2 bets cold without a monster. Re: Makonnen\'s Muck Ups #8 (9?) Low Limit O8
in low-limit o8, I want to either flop the nuts or have a draw to the nuts, and with this board you have neither. on the flop you can only scoop the pot if:
a) you make your straight or flush b) your made hand is good c) no one has the same high hand as you d) no one make a better low than yours would be (and your low is pretty bad) it doesn't really matter what you're up against, you can pick a better spot than that hand on that flop. only the 9 can come which would give you a high hand that wouldn't chop the pot. |

Re: Makonnen\'s Muck Ups #8 (9?) Low Limit O8
Straight draws are often very weak in LO8. It's one of the most common ways to get quartered with a high, they suck if there's any flush draw ( which there usually will be ), if the board pairs up there's a good chance you're drawing dead and if you don't have the nut low for support then you're probably only drawing to half the pot anyways.

No low draw on low draw flop = fold [/ QUOTE ] After hand selection, this is, I think, one of the most important "rules" to incorporate when learning O8. Clearly, still learning it ... -Makonnen |

Re: Makonnen\'s Muck Ups #8 (9?) Low Limit O8
fold... i think when you were playing it you were thinking like it was hold em. you gotta remember, that 35% chance to hit the straight is already worth only half because u got a no good low draw, and since so many cards are dealt in omaha, the straight itself is most likely no good on a paired board. remember to cut a lot of your odds in half from hold em or more.
