Default $50 - 97s Flops OESD, board pairs

Interesting hand...
Villain is 30/21/2 over a decent sample (200 hands), and I've been running 17/16/7.5..
Drawing hands OOP are tricky, especially if board is paired, so what do you think of this? I was planning to fold to most non minraises on river.

Durr, I didn't see you had a flush.

Yeah, 10-12 looks good.

Everytime? He's 30/21 so his cold calling range is far greater than just PPs, but I don't think it would include any 8s. 99,TT, JJ are all possible here.

I can't imagine him not betting that turn with an overpair. It looks more like A8 "slowplaying" his trips on the turn.

I'm somewhat inclined to betting big on the turn. His flop raise could be strong but remember he's on the button and could be trying to use position. I would probably bet slightly less than pot-sized on the turn. You probably take it down a lot, and if not, you're probably calling a push and check/folding a missed river. It depends on how much credit he gives your pre-flop raise. My guess is: not much.

Edit: I think I was looking at this hand a little wrong. Your pre-flop read is important. But upon second look I like the turn check. What about checking the river? I don't think you can really bet more than 1/2. If he has a boat he's raising your bet and it'll make it a tough decision. If you check you can get a lot of 8s to bet and you can avoid having to make a big call. Cool hand.

He can't really put you on the backdoor flush, so I think you can get away with a much larger value-bet on the river. I don't think he has a boat, if he decided to play his set fast on the flop, why would he check behind that turn? He'd at least make a small bet to juice the pot and give odds to draws (since they're dead).
