Gets my vote for Sprotsman of the Year
SI Sportsman of the Year nom Mike Bacsik
I have known him for a long time and he really is everything they say in this article. I didn't know anything about this until his dad emailed me this morning to show me the link. I am obv excited for a friend but I wanted to post the link to see if others saw that night the same way, I was in a clubhouse full of guys who were impressed with him and how he carried himself. Another thing, is anyone surprised that he came out of this w/ little humiliation from the public? At first I had heard in passing people talking negatively about him but that all seemed to fade so quickly--could he have benefited from giving the HR up to Bonds and guy that doesn't demand so much attention? Some of the Dallas guys around here--he was an intern on the Bob & Dan show on the Ticket for awhile and is a bigger Mavericks fan than anyone around here (dog is named Maverick). |

Re: Gets my vote for Sprotsman of the Year
it's a nice story and he handled himself well, but I don't see how this is anything close to deserving for Sprotsman of the Year

Re: Gets my vote for Sprotsman of the Year
lol so the nominations are..
Evander Holyfield for attempting to commit suicide by boxing match Tim Racer and Donna Reynolds for taking care of Michael Vick's dogs. Rick Hendrick, lolol The Lady Rutgers basketball team (obv nom by a woman) Tom Glavine, for being a decent guy and not completely sucking at 31. And winning his 300th game Justin Henin for winning a couple of majors (Also, nom by a woman) Tiger Woods's caddy A marathon runner who's also a mom. Mike Bacsik for giving up a home run. Seriously Tim Duncan for "putting the team above all else." LOL, he's such a standup guy, he never shows up the refs or anything. Karch Kiraly, a [censored] volleyball player The Appalachian State football team. Are you [censored] kidding me? The Iraqi Soccer team Matt Ryan. Jesus christ. Some female golfer. Some female soccer player The Gator starting lineup (Basketball) Sidney Crosby Tony Dungy, he displays the quiet strength of a champion. But he only does it after winning a championship. A couple of years ago he probably didn't display "quiet strength." So let's tally up the sorts. 1 Boxing 1 Dog owning 1 NASCAR 1 Women's Basketball (college) 2 Baseball 1 Women's tennis 1 Caddying 1 Running marathons 2 Basketball (1 College) 1 Volleyball 2 Football (college) 1 Soccer 1 Female Soccer 1 LPGA 1 NHL 1 NFL |

Also, Jack's post was awesome. tdarko, I have to say this is a bizarre assemblage of SOY candidates. I know it's just an excuse to sell magazines anyway, but wow. (EDIT: the year that Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling won for the D'Bags it was legit.) Also, what are the odds that he grooves that pitch to become part of history? I mean, it's almost certainly going to be the thing he's best known for, unless he somehow throws a perfect game in the Series or something. There is also some residual fame and no doubt some income in his future as a result too. He even said "I'm really excited...I'm part of history now." |
