Default intense shoulder pain...

I was wondering if anyone here has had any shoulder problems. Obv you could help me out. I recently took up surfing and when i paddle my left shoulder hurts real bad. its not the typical, im doing something new, soreness. much more painful. the movement of the front crawl stroke hurts , but i can still do push ups, hit a heavy bag, or do other things that involve the shoulder.

could this be a rotator cuff problem, maybe something to do with the tendons? im going to see a dr in 2 weeks but any help now would be great. thanks

JORDIE

I have a similar problem. Its funny because when I lift it doesn't bother me. But when I run my right shoulder really starts hurting. And when I rotate my arm around I can feel and hear it grinding/popping. Its been going on for a few months, but I havent had it checked out. If it gets any worse I will probably have to.

Cliffnotes- I have absolutely no helpfull advice for you, and I rant about my own shoulder problems.

Get it checked out, it really should not be like that. It seems both of you are well aware of how your body hurts when you push it, and this is nothing like it, then something is wrong, find out what. Perhaps see a physiotherapist.

This happened to me, I spent 6 months in rehab followed by rotator cuff surgery (and 2 years of recovery - that really sucked). I suggest you see a sports medicine specialist ASAP... the longer you go without addressing the problem, the more damage your doing to your shoulder.

I would really get it checked out. You can retain function of a rotator cuff or labrum tear for a long time before it becomes unbearable.

If you feel up to it, Google image search up a few surgeries of rotator cuff / shoulder work. There's almost nothing in there.

On the bright side the surgery (if you have to go that route, not everyone does in the end) is minimally invasive now. 7 years ago they would open the entire arm, now its usually done arthroscopicly using three small incisions and usually done in 2-3 hours. Recovery is still nasty because its a 360 degree rotating joint, but its not nearly as bad as it used to be. You cant even see my scars, they were tiny. I'd do it again if I had to.

In april I had to go through almost the exact same surgery procedure. Mine wasn't a problem with the rotator cuff, rather I dislocated my shoulder severely twice in 2 years, and apparently it chipped off alot of bone. The procedure itself was nothing, and the first day was okay, mainly because I was high as hell on vic/oxycontin. The week after surgery was absolute hell though, and to make it even worse it was on my spring break.
