Dell just offered me this...

An extension on my 1 year warentee for 3 more years @ $250.

I have a Dimension 9200 desktop and I was thinking about getting a second monitor.

I find normally warentees are -EV but what do you guys think, 3 more years, parts and labor all that stuff should i do it?

Also, do you think I could swing a deal with them to get a discount on a monitor if I take the warentee?

I'm not sure if Dell works on a barter system for getting stuff discounted but doubt it will influence them much.

I personally would never take that deal but I never purchase warranties, especially on desktops as I'd never keep one longer then maybe 2 years.

I think warranties on laptops make more sense, but then I'd only buy one if the laptop is in the $2k range or more. Else I'd be willing to gamble that something wouldn't break or it'd cost around the same to fix it.

I agree with Witzo...thats the way I pretty much handle warranties, except I always suggest my friends get a warranty on their lappy as I can't really help them out all that much if they have hardware issues with them. Desktop is much easier to fix myself.

That's not a good deal unless you have some extremely nice components in there. This is not likely.
