Default Help decorate goofyballer\'s new apartment: the goofycrib!

I've been to the East Palo Alto IKEA twice in the last three days and it's basically been the most overwhelming experience of my life. I have a new apartment that I need to populate with furniture, and looking upon miles and miles of sofas doesn't make the decision that much easier; to add to the problem, I have absolutely no concept of interior design, what colors go with what, etc etc so I don't even know what crap will look good in my apartment. Making sure my home looks pimp is going to be crucial to helping me land girls, since I don't have much in the way of, say, game to help me out there. This is where you guys come in!

Right now the only thing that's urgent is the living room. I just bought a sofa today, and they're delivering it on Saturday; I can change the order before Thursday, I believe, and I may well want to. For reference, my walls are close to this color (with white trim on the bottom, doors/windows etc are white as well):

Floors are hardwood, look like this, maybe slightly darker (not much though):

Anyway, I got this sofa at IKEA. It comes in the two colors below as well.

I feel like in person it looks like more of a gray-ish color, but whatever.

I'd always pictured myself getting a sofa you can "sink into", which is more like the one below. However, as soft as it is it doesn't have a lot of back support, so if you want to sit up straight instead of slouch it's a little awkward. The one above (that I bought today) has more back support but doesn't have any sinking going on, although the side cushions are very soft for laying down or anything like that. The softer one:

(Corduroy)

Which of these would look good given the colors in my place? For long-time couch owners, which characteristics are important to consider in a good couch?

Thanks BBV4L!

With the walls and floors being those colors, you're best best is a darker sofa. Do NOT get white, one Taco Bell incident and it's done. I really like the chocolate brown couch, it compliments the colors of the floor and wall quite dramatically.

Tan/beige/white couch will blend in with the floors and walls and make the room look very, very drab.

GO DARK!!
