Default British Law

My friend is convinced that in Britain, undercover cops are required to say that they are cops if asked. His reasoning is that some British girls told him this in Spain. We have a little bet on this because this just seems so illogical and stupid. I apologize if this is akin to the lottery thread, but I just want proof for him. All in all, this just seems like a stupid rumor. Also, I tried googling, but that came up empty.
