Very Small Fire at the Venetian
I was just out on the Strip. The Las Vegas Police and Fire Departments had traffic on the Strip blocked from the Mirage to the Wynn(?) for the past 1-2 hours.
Based on comments of a few casino employees and my own observations of the Fire Marshall, it appears there was a small fire at base of the clock tower (bottom right of photo). That's about as far away as you can get from the casino floor. I could only view the scene from across the street. But, I thought I could see scorch marks on a white rail a few floors up from ground level. I can't find any news of this online including the local newspapers website. |

Local news is reporting that a huge tarp landed on some lights with help from wind gusts and caught fire, it was based at the ground level...

...with help from wind gusts... [/ QUOTE ] The past 24 hours have been more windy than I can remember it being in the past year or so. The local weather page has been consistently saying Wind: N (or NE) at 18-24 mph all day. |

The wind has been crazy up here near Red Rock Canyon. Just whipping like heck.

Re: Very Small Fire at the Venetian
I got a better look today. There was less fire damage than I thought I saw last night. But, there's a lot of smoke damage on the tower.
As expected, it was not a big deal. The sidewalk along the Venetian is open and I'm sure some people walked by without noticing anything had happened. |
