river bluff
20-40 w/ a half kill
this hand was 30-60 i am the button with Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] three limpers, i call, sb folds, bb calls. flop Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] very tight straight forward old man bets, fold to me, i raise, fold to him, he 3- bets. this means a set always. always always. turn 5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] he bets, i call river J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] he checks, i bet. i am repping a made draw here. this guy is very ABC. he plays hands like NLD + NFD passively if shown aggression. he never value bets w/o it, and i know top two is no good. it's a regular game full of old timers, and i make this play b/c he can and will fold a set against some of the players here who seemingly would feel guilty about bluffing someone they play with all the time. it is a very soft game. i once won $3500 in three hours playing 15-30. i am not liked because i check raise, raise preflop with out AA2x or AA23 or A23x, and my A game is better than all but one other players. I think this old man likes me, and would feel like an idiot if I showed him what I am repping. I called the turn just b/c I knew what he had and felt like I had a ton of fold equity with a river card like this, and the pot was big enough to justify it. my image is the biggest most annoying LAG in the card room. (annoying b/c i raise, 3-bet, bluff, and disturb their peaceful game) |

Re: river bluff
Are you feared or simply disliked? If you're merely disliked, he'll call.

Re: river bluff
Is there a punchline? Is the old guy the person who parked in your spot?

Re: river bluff
He's getting some pretty good odds to call, isn't he?

Re: river bluff
v. risky but a play you have to make once you float the turn. basically it's math. 7.5:1 to call. he's gonna fold 12% of the time?
how stuck is he in this game? is he making good folds on the river or he is being a sheriff? from my experince, old people don't fold. |

Re: river bluff
Am I the only one that thinks this river "bluff" is insane? You have a hand with some showdown value, there is a low on the board, and it looks like the opponent just made a defensive check. So, I would say your fold equity is about 0.00% Any sort of bet here is horrible.

Re: river bluff
Based on my live play experience, the optimal bluffing frequency is precisely 0.00%
