Actually, it depends on what you're looking for, if you're looking for combat training, Sambo is the best. There are better options if you're just looking for a trendy cardio workout. ~Mike |

I am not looking for a "trendy cardio workout," but rather an effective martial to protect myself. |

Its a form of MA developed in Communist Russia and taught to KGB agents. Its basically the Navy Seal H2H Combat training x10. You're taught valuable street skills, not competition/ring skills.. For example, lesson one: If you let a fight continue for more than 3 seconds, call the hospital.. More than 10, call the morgue. You learn alot of 1 punch and 1 grouping techniques.. You learn to get in, drop them, get out. Keep your distance. A perfect example is this: Did you know that if I'm wearing a pistol, and a man in 7feet away from me concealing a knife, he could stab me about 15 times before I could draw my pistol and fire? Thats how important space is. Sambo will teach you about keeping your distance, will teach you fast, brutal moves, and will increase your alertness. I got into it because of the total lack of bs. No religion/meditation/HHHIIIIIIIIIYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAA Karate Kid [censored]. ~Mike |

Re: Brag: Starting Aikido
I wanted to take Krav Maga, but it's too expensive regarding money and time.
Sambo seems interesting, but I can't find a dojo around my house... |

Re: Brag: Starting Aikido
I [censored] lolled.
Aikido as an effective martial art? Lets be honest, MMA has shown us that to be a good fighter you need to be competant at: striking ( punches+kicks+knees+elbows ), grappling, takedowns, sprawling, and submissions, and clinching. If you watch early MMA shows ( ufc 1-5 in particular ) you'll see that training in just one art is rarely effective but if you have to train just one, that a submission game will benefit you more than anything else. |
