Quick question about betting into empty side pots
I know this is very general, but I figure there are plenty of situations similar and I don't feel the details are all that important.
I raise UTG for 4xBB, CO moves all in, but didn't actually double my bet, SB calls, and I call b/c I am unable to raise. I catch a big piece of a drawy flop (top set on a monotone flop in this instance) SB checks. There is no money in the side pot, whats an appropriate bet size(percentage of main pot or # of BB's please)? |

Re: Quick question about betting into empty side pots
I don't know what is the 'normal' line here, but I treat the entire pot (main + sidepots) as one and bet accordingly.

Re: Quick question about betting into empty side pots
Yeah i just bet the normal % of the total pot (main + side).
If you look at it from the flip side and say your opponent is drawing to the nuts he will work out his odds from the total pot not treat the side pot as something seperate. |

Re: Quick question about betting into empty side pots
Ur villian would probably fold to any bet, because he has to call for the odds this all in has given him.
At least i would fold to any bet from you, it is not profitable for you to bet with nothing. If I have a heavy draw, wich means OESFD, I have to push against any bet, even against your top set. So with top set u should just bet 3/4, 2/3 pot I presume. |

Re: Quick question about betting into empty side pots
your pot vs. the remaining villain includes the main pot, so treat it as a heads up pot for all tha money.
FWIW, if there's a super shortstacked villain, i often raise slightly less to ensure that the villain _CAN_ double my bet, allowing me a second raise PFand giving any smooth callers a beating. I think it's sexy, although it has come in for some abuse when I have posted such hands |

Re: Quick question about betting into empty side pots
Don't treat it like a tournament. I.e. you want to knock someone out, because if the guy is knocked out it doesn't benefit you like it does in a tournament. Place for the money in the pot. I.e. KQs 10j7 of your suit, you should be b/3b like you normally would. No need to check that flop and give free cards.
Just take into account that you cards are shown and they get information for free, and how that might effect your image. |
