Starting chip denominations and amounts of each chip
I play in a monthly home poker league.
The starting chips are 7000. They are broken down as follows: 25 x 4 = 100 100 x 4 = 400 500 x 13= 6500 Totalling 7000 My only problem with this is with the lack of small denonimation chips, it is slowing the game down. People keep screwing up the pots when they try to make change (preflop its easy to figure out usually). The other aspect is it encourages bigger bets just because its easier to bet that much than to make change. Is this a common experience or is it just rediculous? I know there's always going to have to be change made, but it shouldn't have to be every single hand. |

Re: Starting chip denominations and amounts of each chip
Maybe its time for the members to pitch in for some new chips? Even if there are a lot of people in the league you can get some cheap chips for 4c each.
If I was ever going to run a league with a ton of people, I'd get some custom hot stamped (for security) Super Diamond chips. If I remember right you they work out to about 13c each including the custom mold design. BTW, for all your poker chip needs, check out www.chiptalk.net Shameless Plug: Do you guys have a website for you league? If not: www.homepokertour.com. |

Re: Starting chip denominations and amounts of each chip
LOL, this is hilarious...
You should probably either combine the 25 and 100 chips into one denomination or use the 500's as the smaller denomination. |

Re: Starting chip denominations and amounts of each chip
Assuming this is a chip shortage issue... If nobody wants to spring for new chips and these are unlabeled, why not swap out the 500s with the 25s?

OK....Mr. Shameless Plug.
We already use your site. Also, it is definitely not a shortage issue. Its a I can fit 21 chips in each rack on a tray and that super convenient for me issue. |

Re: Starting chip denominations and amounts of each chip
What are the blind levels? Not much use trying to figure out what you need without knowing that.
7k's a weird number. Maybe you should adjust your overall structure? Something proportional that allows you to reduce (or, hell, increase) the blinds to keep a stack of chips as the starting? For an example, I start with 2k chips: 10 x 20 8 x 100 2 x 500 Works like a charm. Tho' I know most like 25 instead of 20 (do you carry $25 bills? No! 20 helps maintain the illusion), so you could do 8 x 25 and then 4 x 500 for 3k. Change should rarely have to be made aside from the occsional ante or blind change, which should be done from each other (antes) or from the pot after betting is over (blinds/betting). It should not hold up the game. If people insist on making change before betting is over, stress that they should do it once they're no longer have action pending (they've already called/raised/folded). For some reason people tend to make change when action is on them. I see it ever week, try to discourage it every week. |

Re: Starting chip denominations and amounts of each chip
If you are hell bent on 21 chips per player then I suggest:
25-8 100-8 500-5 3500 starting chips, change the rounds to 45 minutes and make the first level 25/25. |
