Default Forum Proposal: The Gym

In AtF, there has been an ongoing discussion, lead by Kyleb, about creating a specific forum about health + fitness + nutrition.

Many prominent posters have expressed support with reservations about it, and Kyleb has addresses this and made a clear and good case for how he envisions this forum would work. I did direct him to try it in the Lounge as Mat has laid out in the past, but he gave reasons why he did not want to impinge there.

Could I suggest we take a straw poll yes/no among mods about this here, and discuss who should mod and any other matters.

I think yes, Kyleb should be mod as he clearly has the vision, and it should be considered one of the lower traffic forums where quality rather than volume is the goal.

I propose no more off-topic forums. I know 2+2 has become a gambling/lifestyle forum, but lets get back to basics. Focus...

I propose that if someone wants to do something like this, they should give it a shot in Mod Playground instead. I mean god, it's been fighting arts forever. or is it already time for it to be harry potter?

The Vegas forum idea, which is far more viable than a gym forum, was deemed to be postponed until after the new software. I think Mat has his hands full at the moment rather than worry about launching new forums.

yes let's wait.

Mason has contacted the life extension people to see if they would be interested in hosting a fitness/ nutrition forum.

Mat,

Please say that's a joke right?

Please please please please.

There are like, real companies that I think would be much better suited, like you know, Crunch Gym or something that? I mean I don't think I'm the only one who mentally goes:

Life Extension = e-diet-pills-online.com

Please consider finding a company that would be conceivably used by a 20-35 year old white male.

Agree with cit.

I think a gym forum is great.

I don't think kyleb should be a mod in the least. I know the guy pretty well, and he's not somebody you want in that position.

I want to clarify that I don't necessarilly just have a problem with Life Extension because they sound/feel like a sham, I have a problem with the idea that they, and not companies that do Nutrition + Fitness instead of "supplements" should be the sponsor there. If people want to know what kind of weight training + cardio regimen they should getting to accomplish x, they should be talking in a forum that is sponsored by a gym or online workout advisor or something, not someone that offers great deals on online bulk purchases of amino acids.
