Default A steal attempt, a min raise, and then what?

Hi,
This is my first post. This hand really gave me a lot of trouble, so I would appreciate feedback.

I was playing in a restricted freeroll on pokerroom which you had to qualify to play in. Only 133 players, $50,000 prize pool. The level of play was generally good, much better than your average low buy in tourney. On to the hand.

It is folded to me.

I have J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] T [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] in the cut off. I have been playing very tight and have 2250 with blinds at 75/125. The button and SB have been playing very tight as well and the big blind is one of the shorter stacks with 1520.

I raise to 500. button folds. SB folds. BB raise to 850 (leaving him with only 670). I call (what do you think, should I push?)

Flop K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

BB goes all-in for 670. What should I have done?

wow, I thought this was a pretty interesting hand. But I guess the forums here aren't quite what I expected. I've talked this hand over a lot with my friends and I have my answer now, but I'm stunned no one responded here. I guess my 2+2 career will be short lived.

1st of all your steal was too big, 300-400 would have been enough, plus it was nearly 1/4 of your stack PF.

After he raises you have to make your decision then as to whether you're going w/ this hand or not, because he has. Calling is TERRIBLE and if you raise less it's an easy fold. This looks like QQ+, AK, what else would he value raise here.

Flop you almost have to call. Inside str8 draw 4 outs, two runner runner draws, 2 more outs, possibly rr 2pr draw as well. 6 solid outs I would say and you're getting over 2:1, it's really close, but you shouldn't have been in this situation in the first place.

I agree, I would've dumped this hand pre-flop thinking that I would have to hit 2 pair or a straight on the flop to be happy about my hand. Sure, he's giving you fantastic odds pre-flop, but that 670 is going in no matter what, so you have to consider that before you call the first re-raise.

I'd credit villain with a strong hand here unless I had very strong information to the contrary.

The steal attempt was bad. It was too big and you picked a bad opponent(a short stacked one) to do it against. As you can see, you were put in a really awkward spot as a result. You should try to observe these factors before deciding to steal with a subpar hand.

One of the golden rules about late position steals is to not raise the big blind of a small stack unless you are willing to play for his whole stack. He's the most likely player to push it all in thinking he's committed to playing this hand with any 2 good cards vs a likely steal from a player in LP.
