Default simple 25/50 HU vs. ayellowvette

Hand is against ayellowvette. He called down a stupid 3-barrel I made 5-10 mins ago when it was 4 handed and he held q10 on a q5448 board.

First hand of HU.

I raise on button to 150 with q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. He calls.

300 Flop Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]10[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
check, 200, call

700 turn A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
check, 500, call

1700 river A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
check, I checked but wanted to bet.

You really can't get any value from worse hands than your own here. Q's will call, KJ will fore sure at least call and he folds a 10 very often here.

Check the river behind. Fine showdown value

i think a bet would be a bluff here, and this isnt a good spot for one. your hand has solid SD value and not much else.

villain never has a ten, 4, or underpair and pays off with it?

i dont think villain folds a split here or better (KQ) so this is a thin value bet to me. if i bet a ten, it would be a bluff to me.

FWIW river would definitely be a thin value bet/pray chopping queens fold.

A few more points in favor of a bluff:
-KQ and QJ are only hands he really could have where betting would suck for me. Of those I would guess he 3-bets KQ often.
-not sure he is capable [or should] c/r bluff here
-he has seen me pull some STUPID bluffs [haven't we all]
-not sure he thinks I am capable/willing to valuebet a Q here, he may think I'm on nuts/air

...

anyway, main thing I'm kicking myself for is checking so goddamned fast.

really easy check. there is no draw on the turn. youd have to be firing three barrells with complete air, which on that board is unlikley.

he is not folding QJ/KQ.

When In doubt in spots like this, especially in a HU match, I tend to bet. It's probably pretty close either way--the only thing that wouldn't have me betting here everytime is if Villain will CR river a lot for value and for bluffs, which is unusual.

In general though, when in doubt I tend to bet here because I think it makes you harder to play against, and my gut also says its probably plus EV because yellow is not shy about calling.
