Interesting. But I imagine that a better scenerio would be that they can indeed leave at any time but they would have to leave behind a certain amount of equity. To make the first place a true prize to go after.

That's basically the idea. The winner will get the title and all the millions of $ of endorsements, so I don't think any other incentive should be added. Basically, the players who truly want the title and not the money, will have the highest chance of winning.

The only way to accomplish this...
Is to have a FT full of Poker Pros...
To whom the money is very secondary to winning the tournament.

Also...
For the FT one could reset everyone's chips the same...
So the FT would be a new stand-alone tournament...
And much more competitive.

You people have to think outside the box...
The status quo is outdated and will never survive...

Actually, with people picking up their cash from the table the stakes wouldn't be much higher than HSP on the gameshow network.

The WSOP is a TOURNAMENT. You are looking for a cash game with escalating blinds. Your idea makes no sense. If people want a high stakes cash game they would not buy in for $10,000 and try to run up a big stake, rather they would just play in a bigger game.

Tournaments skills+cash game skills. To me this should be studied a little.
The idea is not a bad one,but I do believe if you decide to leave the arena, there should be some form of penalty.
You have to have a reason to go after the first prize apart from getting the title.An incentive to play if you will.
So if your the big chip leader and your contemplating leaving but part of that consideration is you give up say 25% of equity(as an example)then it's not so easy a decision.

The first tourney I ever played was at an indian casino near santa barbara. The structure was a limit tourney until the final table. At the start of the final table, everyone was given $200 in $5 chips. You could leave any time you were the shortest stack at the table.
