Since you posted this I assume he had a boat? This has happened to me the past two nights as well. When I would finally make the flush, the guy had a boat. This happened 4 times the last two nights and set me down 1.5 buy-ins.

No, he had A9 and my flush was good. I just wasn't 100% sure if the way I played it was optimal.
