The use of the term \'sir\'
Over the last year or so, I've noticed that the word 'sir' has crept into the poker lexicon and now seems a permanent fixture. It's use is obviously polite, but how was it able to reach the tipping point? Is someone responsible for popularizing it, or is this finally becoming a better world?

...or is this finally becoming a better world? [/ QUOTE ] Not so fast. It's often used in the form of sarcasm. Instead of saying, "nice hand, a-hole" it would be said, "nice hand, sir". |

Re: The use of the term \'sir\'
I say type it all the time with no intentions of sarcasim. It more personalized than typing "nh" and easier than typing "nh DQuadfather129." Lucky |

Re: The use of the term \'sir\'
In live play, the use of "sir" is pretty common and has been for a long time. It's common courtesy, really.
Online, it's sarcasm. |

No. You'd be a dik if you said: "Nice hand, sir. By hand, I mean catch. By sir, I mean AH" [/ QUOTE ] |

Re: The use of the term \'sir\'
I agree that it is mostly meant to be polite when said live and sarcastic when typed online.
Note that sarcasm is a heck of a lot better than berating someone. The fish may not understand that I am being sarcastic when I say nh after he called my all-in with a 2 outer on the turn. The experienced, knowledgable player will respond equally sarcasticly by just saying "ty", and to the fish sitting at the table it seems like we had a pleasant exchange, when in reality I said "lucky catch, you f@#$ing A$$hole", and he responded with "Yeah F@#k You, too". |

Does this mean people think I'm being a dick when I'm really just being polite? [/ QUOTE ] Not every time. I now use "nh bra". This seems to not give anyone any kind of idea of what I exactly mean. They can take it either way. If you like using "nh sir" when you mean it I suggest that use after a hand that you were not involved in. Like if someone at the table flops the nut straight with A-K and then gets paid off by someone else with 2 pair. You say "nh sir". Now everyone at the table thinks you mean it. |
