Is It Immoral to Bet on Sports?

Out of curiosity, I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on this. I'll add my own opinion later, since I don't want to influence the results.

Please ignore extreme instances, such as a degenerate taking out a second mortgage on his house just to try to win back his losses, when choosing your response.

Also, I understand there may be a lot of gray areas involved, but just choose what you feel is the best answer (and feel free to provide your reasoning).

Either way, the answer is no. No one is putting a gun to your head and making you bet.

And I'm asking specifically about sports betting, not poker or shooting dice.

I don't think it's a ridiculous question at all.

A lot of athletes resent that there is betting on sports. "We're people, not poker chips."

Mix that into the age-old debate of whether any gambling is moral or sinful, and I think the question cannot be rejected out of hand.

That said, I vote "no".
