Default Mailing a street sign

Is this a really bad idea? I need to get this to a friend by friday, mail is really my only option. What are the odds that I get in any trouble, and if I do get in trouble, what would the consequences be?

It's just a regular street sign, it's not a stop sign or anything like that.

LOL.

David, you're being paranoid like an 18 year old. If you stole it nobody can prove you can unless there's a sticker or stamp on it that says "property of" a certain city or some such thing. Even then who's to say you didn't buy it through legal means? Nobody cares, the USPS and FedEx aren't going to investigate.

Also, I was a sign geek and stole a ton in my time (including a full size functioning traffic signal). Pics of sign plz.

If you get caught mailing stolen property, then that's mail fraud tacked onto the theft.

But then you have to prove the property is stolen. Just mail it. I've mailed worse illegal things than stolen signs through the mail.

like Tuq said, you cant prove it was stolen. You can order street signs legally off the internet.

and it doesnt [censored] matter anyway, becuase how the [censored] are they going to know what you are mailing? They don't open your mail before they send it, and they don't ask what it is. And if they do (Which they wont) all you have to do is say "art".
