Default Pokerstars new high limit games...wtf?

A friend of mine plays high limit on Stars.

When they introduced the big games he wanted to play. He asked for permission.

In response he got this email:

"Thank you for contacting us about our PokerStars top section games, being
hosted by Barry Greenstein.

Because of the stakes involved, we want to be absolutely sure about the
security of these games. Therefore, we are asking Barry Greenstein to
review and approve the name of each player who wishes to play in them.

If you wish to be approved to play in these games, we need to send your
name and PokerStars screen name to Barry Greenstein. We will not send
*ANY* other information to Barry - just your real name and PokerStars user
ID. We expect his approval to come quickly - taking no more than 48 hours.

Of course, we will not send your name to Barry without your permission, so
please reply to this email with your permission to do so. We will forward
it onto Barry and then get you into the top section games as quickly as
possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us.

As always, we appreciate your playing at PokerStars and your interest in
our top section games.

Best regards,
Lee Jones"

I mean, wtf????

He needs to ask Barry Greensteins permission to play poker?

He has been consistantly playing the biggest games on stars for years and they won't allow him to play.

Does Greenstein know every poker player in the world and also know if they are liable to cheat or not???

Stupid ruling by stars in my opinion.

I do not see a ruling, just a form letter (wtf?) telling your friend to email them back with his name.

I wonder in what way is Barry Greenstein qualified to make a determination like this.

It's Barryg's game y0, he doesn't have to be qualified. Although, I'd trust his ruling's. It's barry fricken G for god sakes.

The ruling is: if you don't get Greenstein's permission, you don't play.

What if you don't know him?

Why is this a big deal at all? Unless Barry denies your friend, I'd say to just stop complaining.

For one, why should Greenstein know the identity of any player?

For two, why is Greenstein qualified to comment on the integrity of players he has never met?
