Default Game \'Size\'?

My question is pretty simple - what are some equivalent levels of LHE and NL in terms of game 'size'? Does NL 100 play roughly as 'big' as 5/10 LHE? Bigger? Smaller? I have a comfortable 10/20 roll for LHE, but am not at all sure what levels of NL will allow me to both take an interesting shot and not busto myself if/when I inevitably suck.

1000 bbs for limit is like 30+ BIs for NL, 500-600 is like 20BIs u probably wont go bust if u move down if u get to like 25BIs for the limit below.

to put this in a slightly incorrect way

obviously the true answer relates to ur winrate and the risk of ruin calcs but I think 30 BIs is a healthy roll and 20's pretty darn safe in the lower limits esp if u ll move down if u drop like 8 BIs.

[/ QUOTE ]I'm not really worried about BR management as much as I am by expected WRs and such. Given what I've heard that a ptbb/100 of about 4 is pretty good but not great is that NL200 plays about as 'big' as 5/10 lhe (4ptbb/100 = 1.6 bb/100)

Obviously, doesn't matter if my expected WR in negative, but given the level of play I've seen at NL 100, if I'm not +EV in that game, I need to fold life.

The rule of thumb for BR at limit is 300BB. At NL, the rule of thumb is 20 buy-ins. So to play 5/10 limit you'd need a roll of $3000.00. To play 100NL, you'd need a roll of $2000.00.

With your bankroll you can play 400 NL though online these days its a pretty tough game. I think you should play 200 NL and crush, those games are great and you will learn what you need to. Don't be afraid to stick around when you and someone else get deeper stacks and use those opportunities to learn how to make a game bigger with preflop 3 bets and just deep stack play in general. While your winrate calculations are obviously correct NL one needs to be mentally adjusted for the fact you can easily play more tables and the variance is going to be lower unless you aren't a winner.

I'd say 4-5x (for the name of the game, 2x-2.5x blind size) is a good rule of thumb. i.e. 10/20 limit = 2/4 or 2/5, 15/20 = 3/6, 100/200 = 25/50; etc. At 100bb that is. Deeper live games play bigger; probably divide avg stack by 100 for equivalences.

I'd say 30 buyins is closer to the standard. 50 is better if you play in really aggressive games or a high variance LAG style.

20 is cutting it pretty thin, but is ok if you can drop down when you hit a downswing.

Sounds about right. NL$100 is high enough that your experience will be meaningful as you move up (in a way that crushing NL$10 wouldn't be), but not so high that you'll drop a load of cash while you learn.

I agree, 100nl is a good starting off point.
