50NL: Top set, villain bets into me with multiple straights on turn.
Villain has been at table for less than two orbits and caught every single hand, just about tripling up through a hyperlag donkey. I've been average TAG.
Poker Stars, $0.25/$0.50 NL Hold'em Cash Game, 5 Players LegoPoker Hand History Converter BTN: $60.10 SB: $55.60 BB: $147.45 UTG: $43.20 Hero (CO): $50 Pre-Flop: dealt to Hero (CO) UTG folds, Hero raises to $2, 2 folds, BB calls $1.50 Flop: ($4.25) (2 Players) BB checks, Hero bets $3.55, BB calls $3.55 Turn: ($11.35) (2 Players) BB bets $7, Hero ??? Basically all I know about villain so far is that he has seen a flop and wound up winning with some questionable hole cards. Everything else is a complete unknown. I would have to make about 7$ on the river to call for a boat. Should I do that, or is this a raise for value? Does anyone see a fold? |

this is a RAISE, every time. Stop seeing monsters under the bed. Get all you money in with this every time you can. If you're actually against a straight here, oh well, tough break.
Besides, his turn bet looks like a classic blocking bet. RAISE!!! |

Raise. This is rarely a straight. If he caught he's a tad more likely to c/r than bet out. He's probably got something like JT or 87(now double gutted.)
Raise it big, he's probably got some decent odds with whatever he's got. |

Perfectly played by you. Just think to yourself that this is where all the money comes from, donks who'll call with gutters. I usually find that when I lose a stack this way, it's coming back to me.
You gave it away a bit that you lost when you said "multiple straights on turn" in your title. Normally we're fist pumping here and never think of it again when the donk shows whatever, even if they suck out on the river -- we know we got in good. I mean, it never gets posted when villain shows you 99, or JT and hits a Q. You know you got it in good. Wish the board had paired and he could call you a lucky [censored]... |

You gave it away a bit that you lost when you said "multiple straights on turn" in your title. [/ QUOTE ] Actually, I would have put that in the title had I won also. I went through a 20 buy-in downswing over the last 4k hands of September and am now in the process of getting back in the habit of posting hands. Some of them, like this one, are simply sanity checks that I'll post regardless of results to make sure that I am thinking of everything I need to be. Mentioning that there were multiple straights in the title was simply the best way to explain to someone scanning the headers why there was any question about this hand at all. That having been said, thank you for the check-up and confirmation that my raise was the best move. The call of the reraise was a no brainer since I have 10 outs to the boat. |

Yeah, but you wouldn't have posted it.
