Default Where are all the semi-high stakes games in Nor Cal?

It seems there is a giant gap in stakes in Nor. Cal. between 5/10 and 10/20 NL.
There's two 5/10 NL's I know of but both are shortstacked ($200-500 @ Lucky Derby), and ($200-600 @ 101 Casino). There's the Palace which is a 1/2/2 NL game that allows two kills and plays like a small 5/10 NL game. But the minimum buy-in is $100 so it gets infested by shortstackers. Lucky chance's unfortuantely has a betting cap placed on all their games, so they cant spread anything bigger than a lousy 2/3/5 spread limit.

On the other side of the gap you have three games that are all monstrosities that I dont have the 'roll or skill-level to play it.
Artichoke Joe's has a 5/5/10 NL game but the minimum buy-in is $2000 and from watching the game someone seemed to kill every hand making it $40 to go consistently.
Lucky Derby's has a $2000-$10000 10/20 NL game, but thats also way too big for me.
Deuce's Wild has a $2500 min no max 10/25 NL game, but thats also too big for me.

I'm left with a 5/10 NL 300 min no max in Manteca on Sundays and a 5/10 NL 500 min no max in Deuce's Wild on Tuesdays and maybe Saturdays (though it seems to fizzle pretty fast). I am wondering if there were anymore consistent options out there? It just seems to be theres a giant gapping hole between games with avg stacks of 600$ and games with average stacks of 5000$.

Anyone have any ideas here or been to some other game that I havent heard of?

the 2k min buyin at AJ's just means that the fish have more money in front of them. isnt that a good thing?

Also if you're rolled for 5/10-10/20 online, you definitely are rolled for AJ's game.

Lucky Chances will have real NL back on Jan 1st, according to the floorpeople.

Yeah, Lucky Derby has some pretty screwed up buy ins. 2-5 $200 max, 5-10 $500 max, and 10-20 $2000 min on Thursdays. The 10-20 has been fizzling somewhat quickly lately, though. They used to have a 10-20 $500-$1000 buy in but it cannibalized their 2-5 (then) spread limit game, which is the reason that they made the new buy in so large.

The Deuces Wild 5-10 game on Tuesdays is what I usually play when I go there, and it is often fairly good in that most of the players are fairly straightforeward and not very tricky. But as you mentioned, it has a tendency to fizzle quickly too. Unless they changed the format of the big game on Tuesdays, it's not 10-25 $2500, but is actually a 10-20 $1000 minimum buy in game. You might want to check that out. I talked with the owner and he thinks that the games there have been having troubling staying together lately because most of the core players have been away for the holidays. About two months ago, though, the 10-20 started at 8pm Tuesday and broke up at 1pm Wednesday from what I heard, so it may be solid again soon (if it isn't already - I haven't been there for a few weeks).

I have never played at Manteca, but have heard that the 5-10 goes everyday. That's completely based on small bits I have heard from random people, though, so I wouldn't put too much stock in it.

Feather Falls Casino in Oroville (~60mi north of Sacramento) has a 3-5 10 to open game on Fridays and Saturdays that usually starts at 6pm, but because of the $100 min buy in, it usually plays fairly small (though there is no max buy in). It almost always lasts until at least 4am. The game is very soft, but as I mentioned, it plays pretty small and might not be what you are looking for. I almost always buy in for $500 when I sit, and if I am there to start the game, I nearly always have the table covered. As the night goes on and people go broke, stacks get bigger, and often most players in the main game have at least 400-500. Most of them would not conceive of putting that much in the pot without the nuts, though. They are easy to bluff with big bets and they do not make large value bets. A $100 bet in that game virtually screams "I'm pretty damn sure I have the best hand."

All in all, though, you are right, there simply aren't that many big 2-5 games or normal size 5-10 games up here. If you want to find a limit game, it's even worse (until you get to the Bay, but that's a long drive for me - I have to drive an hour to get to Sac). I get around it by mostly playing online and doing a lot of traveling, staying with friends in LA and LV, and occasionally traveling up to South Shore Lake Tahoe and Reno during their tournaments, although Reno kinda blows.
