Default Insound.comsTop Ten of 2007

So I don't have one of these albums, any other indie nerds want to comment?

I. The XYZ Affair - A Few More Published Studies - unabashed power pop at its finest.

II. The New Pornographers - Challengers - less bubblegum, more melancholy.

III. Monomen - Monomen - “Drums of Glass” is the best song we’ve heard in months.

IV. Justice - Cross - this is what electro-dance should’ve been like all along.

V. Ra Ra Riot - Ra Ra Riot - clearly this is pretty perfect “croon” pop.

VI. Bill Callahan - Woke On A Whaleheart - the smog clears up.

VII. A Band of Bees - Octopus - thoroughly enjoyable throwback melodies.

VIII. The Twilight Sad - Fourteen Autumns & Fifteen Winters - ambient-emo-Scot-rock.

IX. The National Lights - The Dead Will Walk, Dear - a love letter to Goth.

X. Dinosaur Jr. - Beyond - Barlow and Mascis make up.

X. Dinosaur Jr. - One of my favorite albums of the year, by far.

IV. Justice - I relaly like electro dance but I'm not a huge fan of this album except for one track. Just feels a little cheesy to me, but that might be because I"m looking at it from a dance music perspective instead of a rock perspective.

New New Pornos is pretty good, but I dunno about 2nd-best-album-of-the-year good.

New Dinosaur Jr. album is decent too, but not earth-shattering. J. Mascis is still a really awesome guitar player, so they have that going for them.

Haven't heard any of the others. Gotta say I'm immediately skeptical of an "ambient-emo-Scot-rock" band called the Twilight Sad though.

Justice album has some catchy parts but every song starts like "oh wow, this could be awesome" and then just sort of disintegrates into meh.

This list is pretty lame imo.

I thought it was pretty good. Pitchfork really liked it. (Twilight sad that is).

I really like Justice, though I don't see it as an album to dance to.

I like the New Pornographers and the Twilight Sad albums but I don't love either of them. Haven't heard any of the others.
