I raised with 97s . . . good flop, get mini-checkraised, now what?
Was trying to mix my game up a little so I raised preflop. I'm new to the table, so no reads.

Re: I raised with 97s . . . good flop, get mini-checkraised, now what?
This smells like a flushdraw to me, or maybe a T9-two pair. But the flushdraw seems more likely to me. And I think you're behind his then.
I think I'd call and try to see a cheap showdown if no third spade hits the board... |

if you bet 7 or so on the flop here, a shove is much less awkward. I like a 3bet to 44 or so, calling a push of course.

[/ QUOTE ] Well im assuming he minraises still, and that way the pot is 9+14+14= 37 when you shove for your remaining 60 or so, as opposed to pushing into a pot of 9+10+10=29. EDIT: basically, its less of an overbet if you lead for more. I dont mind 3betting the flop less than all in though, because you are in position. |

Re: I raised with 97s . . . good flop, get mini-checkraised, now what?
these check minraises are way more often "see where i'm at" with a junky 10 then a flush draw, IMO. the 1/2pot bet really encourages a cheap bluff on his part. midpair + FD is pretty strong here. whether you push now or push over his turn lead don't matter a lot and are more player-specific.

Some players will now never fold, others are trying to find out where they are at and will fold to further aggression. You can either 3bet here or call and see what the turn brings. In a vacuum, 3betting is probably better. But it's very player dependent and there are lots of folks at 100NL against whom just calling is best. |
