to protect my cpu [/ QUOTE ] A good ball-bearing cooling fan and heatsink paste I prefer Kaspersky for antivirus. NOD32 is prolly a close second and won't take as many system resources. Adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy for spyware detection/removal, My personal choice of firewall is no longer available but you definately need an application-level firewall (personally, I don't like Zone Alarm due to some historic security exploits but it's probably fine today) Cruise around sysinternals.com and check out their free utilities. I routinely run many of them but it's more dependant on your personal preference and knowledge. Replacing Task Manager w/ their Process Monitor is one thing I always do. Obviously don't use IE for web browsing and snag an alternative, non IE-based browser like firefox (among others). Never use OE for email or newsgroups...again, use freebie alternatives out there like Thunderbird. Grab all your updates for doze and office...and don't use any office apps to open files from untrusted sources (lots of 0-day office junkware circulating currently). Use common sense.....not sure where to download that tho Congrats on the new comp.....enjoy it and make baller bux0rz w/ it! |
