Default Really Rusty AJo with a straddle ($8-$16)

Hello, forum. It's been a while since I've posted a hand, and even longer since I've played poker, live or online. Work has kept me away from the game for 8 or so months, so I'm juuuuust a bit rusty. Had a stopover in Vegas the other day for a night, so I popped into the Bellagio $8-$16.

It is a good table. The villian in this hand is terrible calling station post-flop. Plays (almost) any two cards. Loves to straddle my big blind. Will call almost anything on flop. Will raise turn if he has one-pair or better, will call anything else with a chance on the river. Is currently on semi-monkey tilt due to me and him going 5 bets on the turn about 4 hands ago, where I flopped top two, and he turned a lower two pair.

NOTE: I couldn't move to his left. I think a young 2+2er from Minnesota was there. If you are reading this, you play goot.

Hero is in BB with A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Villain throws out a straddle.

Folded around to Hero. Hero raises. Villian calls.

Flop (6 SB): 10 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

Hero bets, Villian calls

Turn (4 BB): 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

Hero bets, Villain calls

River (6 BB): 6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

Hero checks, Villain bets, Hero calls

Bet/fold here better? Check/fold? Or do we want to see a showdown for one more BB?

Given the animosity that you two have developed, the check/call is better than it would normally be since he is more likely to bluff at the pot.

preflop and flop are perfect, IMO

On the turn, against an opponent like this I bet 50% of the time and check 50% of the time.

If you bet and get raised, it is an easy fold.
The river is tough, but a call is reasonable here.

If you bet, what do you think your FE is?

A lot. I never saw this guy bluff raise the river. A raise means I am beat. Period.

I don't like anything that would lead you to fold on the river. Either value bet if you think he'll call with a worse hand, or check/call.

Btw- True calling stations don't generally straddle, raise any pair on the turn, or go 4 bets with bottom two. You just have your terms mixed up.

You are correct. I probably should have modified my description of him as one who will call down regularly on the flop, turn and river with anything less than top pair.

Looks fine. I think check-calling the river is better than betting and hoping he somehow calls with a worse hand.

I would have played it the same as you did.
