Villain is 85/10/.9 after ~20 hands, so he's probably an idiot. This is one of the rare steal spots I have trouble with. Raising the flop inflates the pot and overreps my hand but usually defines his as a draw or top pair type hand...so is this a spot where I should fire turn or check and call a decent river?

lots of draws out there, bet $9, fold to a c/r, check behind on river.

That turn card improves your hand since your useless kicker no longer plays. I'm firing again here probably 10ish. If he calls again with his likely draw I'll check behind on most rivers.

I assume that this guy will c/r you here with hands you are tied with or beat. I want to see a showdown so I check.
I don't like the preflop. He is going to call and you are going to be playing with a hand that doesn't really have an edge on him. You are cutting your implied odds needlessly and picking up very little fold equity. |

Fire again. In my experience those min blocking bets are flush draws or bottom pair hands that want to see a showdown cheap. If he re-raises you on the turn, fold and assume the 9 helped him.
I like the preflop play. |

Elaborate on what you mean by what's the plan?
I thought I explained my plan for the rest of the hand. I would c/c river if called again on turn and a spade doesn't hit. I would c/f if a spade hits. I am firing the turn to charge draws, because that is my read on what those min bets mean from players like this. |

What type of hands/draws do you expect to make and how do you plan to play them against our villain? |

Raise preflop to isolate a bad player. I think any ace is ahead of the 85% that our villain is repping as his range. Depending on villains fold to CB%, I would either b/c/f the flop depending on what villain does since I have position on him. If he is a serious station we can probably get three streets of value out of an Ace high flop.

Limp preflop to invite the blinds to come a long so you can play a 4-way, small pot on the button with A-rag suited.
As played, check behind so that villain's river bet on a non-spade river will be smaller and you can call it profitably. If it is a spade and he bets, then you can fold. If he checks the river after you check the turn, then you check behind. It's worth giving the free card on the turn to avoid putting in $10 on the turn and facing a $15-$20 decision on the river. You only beat a bluff, so give him a chance to make a small bluff at the river by checking behind on the turn. |
