Default Status of the Trop ?

From what we've all heard, it looks like the new poker room won't happen. I haven't played there in a while, but I read an earlier AC post where someone said the room was dead on a Friday night. That's bad news, it looks like the Trop is on life support.

Is it possible that the Trop will jsut end up closing their poker room altogether ? Is the Hilton taking away their players ?
I wouldn't be surprised, there's too many poker rooms in AC now as it is.

I was there last night and I can say that it is in no way dead. In fact, there was a list from 5 PM until after midnight. They opened 3 new tables of 1/2 in the space of 20 minutes at one point, opened about 4 new 2/5 tables while I was there, a number of stud and LHE tables, and ran the pink chip game. Every time we busted a player at 1/2, there was immediately a new fish to fill the empty chair (straight out of the Taj scene at Rounders).

One dealer did tell us that the new owners let over 900 people go since they started.

Poker at the Tropicana is not dead, but its ranking of being the third best poker room behind Borgata and Trump Taj can be questioned. The regular cash game players will still continue to play there, as will as the usual weekend/summer tourists. In my opinion, the change to the tournament schedule was negative and many of those players went elsewhere.

The Hilton room is nice, but I do not think the players leaving Tropicana are all going there. I prefer the Hilton over the Tropicana, but the play is tougher at Hilton in my opinion. It is like Cheers there, everyone knows everyone.

Keep in mind, people were not leaving Tropicana becuase of the poker. They were leaving becuase of poor or lacking customer service, unmaintained restrooms, etc.)

Glad to hear it, this is good news. Now if they'd only make a few changes to the current room. Little things like brighter lighting, more room betweenn the tables, autoshufflers, and actually cleaning the place once in a while. I still like their game selection (3/6 & 5/10 stud, 4/8 HE & pink chip), and the floor coming around to swipe the poker cards at the table.

I hope Hilton steals more players away from the Trop...Hilton is the most underrated room in AC, but could use some fresh blood in terms of players. On the bright side, I actually got to play 2/5 NL there yesterday.

The Trop may continue to loose customers if they do not get with the program. By that I mean they need to add auto shufflers and reinstate a bad beat. There are plenty of places in AC (all the Harrah's casinos) that have that. All in all I don't think they are in danger of going bust. But they sure could do some improvements or at least do some promotions to get back or induce new customers to come.

Lack of a bad beat jackpot, and the $1 per pot that gets raked away, is part of why I like the Trop over Harrah's rooms. I do play at Harrah's rooms, but 25% more rake is more rake and it irritates me that more of my money goes away when I play there. If I want to spend $1 to win a bunch, I'll go play the lotto.

That said, people love the bad beat jackpot. If the Trop reinstated a bad beat jackpot, I'd probably not go back - taking into consideration the slow drink service and gross bathroom conditions. If they bought a mop or employed more than one waitress in the NL room it wouldn't be as big of a deal.

I've never had a problem with the bathrooms at the Trop...maybe it's just the men's rooms? What are you people doing in there?
And I've had slow drink service at every poker room I've played at in AC, at least at the Trop you can walk up to the bar to get free drinks if it comes to that.
I would very much appreciate auto-shufflers though. They are moving the poker room, so they might be installing them as part of the move. We'll see what happens. I hope it doesn't slide too much, as I've always enjoyed playing at the Trop.

The Poker Room is not being moved, demolished, rebuilt, relocated, or anything.

I have been up there twice recently on pretty busy weekend and had no problems with the restrooms.
