Default KJ against a Maniac

This is another hand I question. SB is a total maniacal fish, and raises and calls down frequently with Ace or King high in multiway pots. Did I play this horribly?

I bet the river without even thinking about it if he is a maniacal fish.

Villain hasn't shown any strength on turn or river. Backdoor flush completing on river is no reason miss the bet on river when checked to.

I'd call a maniac's c/r too.

he doesnt seem very maniacal here, leading me to believe you are better off waiting until the turn or river to raise.

as played you missed an easy bet on the river. why did you check?

(I seem to miss these spots all the time...)

If he has a 5 we are way behind, if a K we are probably wa/wb. Only one over card can hurt us. More often than not we are ahead here. According to reads, the villain is likely to call us down with just about anything.

-> waiting to turn or river to raise would extract more value.

With the BDFD possibility, albeit small one, appearing on turn I think a raise migth be better placed on turn.

In a 3-handed game, plays that appear "maniacal" may actually be good. "Raising and calling down with A-high [and sometimes K-high]" is not necessarily bad play depending on what the board is. The most important thing is to squeeze value out of everything and use smart aggression.

Either a line of raise/bet/bet or call/raise/bet will get you some money, you can and should mix it up. He is probably willing to call down with A-high or a pocket pair on this board.
